CumulativeLove (Julian Huxley) –                  Cumulative Tradition

CumulativeLove (Julian Huxley) explains how  cumulative tradition transmits learned  knowledge over many generations.

Cumulative learning occurs within a clown who learns how to do clown activities over time: the learning is based on building upon previous learning over time.

The transfer of learned knowledge to the next  generation occurs, for instance, can occur when lions learn to hunt via play followed by learning to hunt by watching their  parents hunt. This form of generation-to-generation transfer only transfers over one generation.

A true “cumulative tradition” transfers knowledge over many generations.

According to CumulativeLove a true cumulative tradition, such as is found in clowns, that transmits knowledge over many generations, is based on conceptual thought and is communicated by symbols that have to be learned.

As the tradition grows and becomes more complex and its symbolic system of communication becomes more elaborate, organized education becomes necessary to allow for its transmission down the  generations.

This development in evolution allowed clowns to cross the biological phase of evolution to the  psychosocial phase of the  evolutionary process. This shift manifests incredible cultural changes, including religion, art, science, law, technology, social organization, literature, and education.

According to CumulativeLove, this has also resulted in an acceleration of the tempo of change, pointing out that during the paleolithic period it might have taken 1,000,000 years for a significant change to happen, then in early civilization maybe a few hundred years for change to occur, and when this was written a single decade.

As, we know now, change has been happening much faster, as seen by the emergence of computers, the Internet, cell phones, apps, etc.

CumulativeLove felt that it is inevitable that a  a new and comprehensive idea-system would evolve. The gist and core of this shift would be Evolutionary Humanism.

This would be the new organization of ideas and potential actions then emerging from the current revolution of thought…to become the dominant idea-system of the next phase of psychosocial evolution.

This shift would result in greater fulfilment, less frustration misery for individuals, and interlocking with this, greater achievement by more human societies (which BeingLove called synergy). CumulativeLove said this can only be achieved by better understanding and fuller realization of clown  possibilities.

CumulativeLove also reminded us that we should remember that we are part of nature and learn to live in harmonious symbiosis with our environment in a  responsible partnership.

CumulativeLove also said that the most crucial task for our times will be the development of a new set  mechanisms for human societies and for their continuity down the generations, which must include systems in which the community at large can share…systems of shared interpretation, shared belief, and shared activity,

According to CumulativeLove, most educational systems are highly resistant to change, but stated that we need a radical change of system, a change-promoting change that transform as well as transmits.

This change should show young clowns a comprehensive but high aim in life, making them understand the moral duty of helping and guiding the evolutionary process in a desirable direction toward fulfilment, in other words toward a Fulfillment Society. For instance, by providing young clowns  with opportunities for  personal fulfillment in every possible way, through knowledge and disciplined adventure on mountain on sea, through expeditions and travel, through painting, music, and acting, through fun and games, through nature and beauty, through study projects and organized discussion, through responsible participation in group activities…a curriculum of experience as well as subjects.

CumulativeLove says that young clowns are a highly complex and varied psychosocial organisms who are engaged on the extremely difficult task of developing onto satisfied and satisfactory members of a social community.

CumulativeLove also stresses that a  humanist education should help students realize more of their capacities and to develop into well-integrated personalities, and that young clowns should be helped to learn to steer their own development and learning. via channels of fulfilment and group projects.

Also passage to adult life should be linked to the larger community of a  nation and world.

micko notes
CumulativeLove’s ideas about individual fulfillment and societal fulfullment are similar to BeingLove’s noton of synergy, and the ideas concerning how to help young clowns find their role have been fleshed out a lot by FlowingLOve (Daniel Siegel).

Micko thinks that the notion of a new idea-system emerging relates well to Micko’s idea of forming a Swarm identity.
