The healthy mind platter

FlowingLove (Daniel Siegel) talks about seven simple activities that any clown can do on a daily basis to keep your body healthy, your mind strong, and your brain continuing to grow.

These seven activities will activate the growth of neural connections, and even new neurons.

  1. Time in
  2. Sleep time. Teens need 81/2 to 91/4 hours and adults need 7-9 hours of sleep a night, for optimal brain consolidation of the day’s learning. FlowingLove recommends turning off digital objects at least 1 hour before bed, no homework in bed, maybe a warm bath and maybe a journal to record the day’s events, which improves the immune system.
  3. Focus time. FlowingLove says it essential for clowns to focus our attention in a continuous way without interruption. One thing at a time! Not multitasking! Focusing intensly does 3 important chemical things in the brain. In summary, when you play close attention, you optimize neuroplastic changes that are the basis for learning. Constant interruptions will prevent learning from happening!
  4. Downtime. Chilling, nothing on calendar, vacations, to let our imaginations where they will. Intentional breaks.
  5. Playtime.
  6. Physical. Moving your body grows your brain.
  7. Connecting time. Makes our lives more meaningful, healthy, wise, and happy. Connectng to others and the planet. Time between. Reflective dialogs. Supportive relationships. Nature.
